Spooky Halloween sugar cookies

With Halloween right around the corner I thought I'd break in the spooky, scary holiday with something simple that can turn into great family fun while improving or teaching a little bit about royal icing.

This post is features you classic cookies such as scary ghost 👻, silly pumpkins🙃🎃 ugly witches🤢 and more.

Sugar cookie Recipe:

Wets:

1 Cup of softened, cubed unsalted butter

1 Cup of granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tspn vanilla extract

5-6 drips Green food dye

3 of each, Yellow and red food dye or

5-6 orange food dye

Dry:

3 Cups Ap flour

2 tspn baking powder

A pinch of salt (should be less than 1/4 tspn for reference)

Procedure:

  1. In a medium bowl whisk together the dry ingredients, set aside.

  2. In your mixing bowl or in a large bowl beat the butter until soft, scrape in between mixing.

  3. Add the sugar to the butter, mix until creamed (about 2 mins) then scrape the bowl and continue to mix (30 seconds).

  4. Add you egg and mix until incorperated.

  5. Stop the mixer, scrape down the sides of the bowl and add the dry all at once to the wets.

  6. Mix the drys into the wets just until combined.

  7. Divide the dough into three and tilt them with the food dye. Pictured below⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⤵️

8. On a floured surface roll out your dough, flour your rolling pin and cutters in between roll & cuts or as needed.

9. Bake the cookies at 325°F for 10-15 mins. Be sure to watch the progress of the cookies as they will be done fast. They should have slight golden brown edges.

10. Allow the cookies to fully cool before touching, eating or icing.
